INSURANCE APPRAISAL
Insurance appraisals are typically the most common type of appraisal. Insurance companies require an appraisal in order to insure jewelry. In most cases, homeowners insurance will not cover the full value of jewelry in the event of loss, theft, natural disaster, or any other incident.
In obtaining the proper coverage, you will need to provide appraisals for each piece of jewelry and obtain a separate rider or policy for your jewelry because of the higher value. The insurance appraisal provides a current fair market value, detailed and accurate description of the item, and hi res photos which make it possible to identify, replace, and or recreate an exact duplicate should there ever be an incident requiring replacement.
INSURANCE APPRAISAL PROCESS
The process for insurance appraisals involves the primary evaluation by our GIA Certified Gemologist followed by our in-house research and evaluation. You will receive the appraisal within 1 to 4 days. The cost is usually per item and varies dependent on the intricacy of each piece of jewelry. If you have multiple pieces you must set up an appointment for appraisal.
At this point we will take inspect your jewelry and determine which pieces are good candidates for an insurance appraisal. You can elect to have some of your jewelry evaluated while you are with your items, and leave some for further evaluation as well. If there are any documentation for previous appraisals, certificates, and receipts please bring those with you to your appointment as it will expedite the process and reduce your overall cost.
ESTATE APPRAISAL
The estate appraisal is typically for settling an estate. The primary function is usually to represent the clients best interest whether you are an executor, guardian, or law firm. We understand that the items of jewelry have precious sentimental value and we take that into consideration. The process for an estate appraisal follows the same guidelines as the insurance appraisal process.
DIVORCE APPRAISAL
A divorce appraisal provides a fair current market value of your jewelry for the division of marital assets. Divorce appraisals follow the same guidelines as insurance appraisals.
GEMOLOGICAL CONSULTATION
This is a service provided for individuals that want to know what the value of a jewelry item is. This can be useful in determining whether or not you want to insure the item, if it is real, or if you paid a fair price. This appraisal does not require an appointment.
